Students who have met the following requirements have fulfilled the GE Math/Quantitative Reasoning requirement and are permitted to enroll in the next level of math: A score of 3 or above on the College Board Advanced Placement Calculus AB or Calculus BC tests A score of 3 or above on the College Board Advanced Placement Statistics test

Requirements: All students must complete a minimum of nine units in Area B including a minimum of three units in each of the following three areas: Physical Science, Life Science, and Quantitative Reasoning. Additionally, a course that satisfies the Laboratory Science requirement must also be taken. Specific test and course prerequisites are printed in the Undergraduate Graduation Requirements section of the Bulletin.

Mathematics (MATH) Statistics San Francisco State University

MATH 124 Elementary Statistics (Units: 3) Prerequisites: Category I or II placement for QR/Math, or satisfactory completion of ELM requirement, or MATH 70 or ESM 70 with a grade of C or better. Students with Category III or IV placement for QR/Math or students who have not passed MATH 70 or ESM 70 with a C or better or satisfied the ELM must concurrently enroll in MATH 123. Data analysis, probability, and statistical inference. For students in any field where statistics is a means of communication and a tool for decision making. (Note: For this course to satisfy General Education, students must earn a C- or CR or higher grade if taken fall 2014 or later.) Course Attributes: B4: Math/QR

Undergraduate Graduation Requirements – San Francisco State University Bulletin 2013 – 2014

The California State University (CSU) ELM examination is designed to assess the skill levels of entering CSU students in the areas of mathematics typically covered in three years of rigorous college preparatory courses in high school (Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry). The CSU ELM examination must be completed by all entering undergraduates, with the exception of those who present proof of one or more of the ELM exemptions listed below. Students who do not have an acceptable ELM exemption are required to take the ELM examination before their first semester of matriculated attendance at SF State.
