Create a Bootable Ubuntu USB Flash Drive the Easy Way – How-To Geek

Create a Bootable Ubuntu USB Flash Drive the Easy Way

We’ve already covered how to use an Ubuntu Live CD to backup files from your dead Windows computer, but using the boot cd can sometimes be a little slow. We can speed up the booting process by installing Ubuntu to a bootable USB flash drive instead.

To accomplish this, we’ll use a tiny software package called UNetbootin, which is designed to make the installation process simple and easy.

Create the Bootable Flash Drive

You’ll first need to download the UNetbootin software and save it somewhere useful, since there’s no installation required, just double-click to run.

I chose to use an already downloaded ISO image of the Ubuntu installation cd, and then chose my flash drive, and clicked the OK button. Yes, this step is as simple as that.

image

The process will extract the files from the ISO image (or download them), copy them to the flash drive and then install the bootloader. Depending on what you are installing, this really doesn’t take very long.

Change Firefox Font Size Of Address, Tab And Status Bar

The Firefox web browser offers no options to change the fonts of the address bar, tab bar and status bar from within the web browser. Advanced users can manually edit the css in userchrome.css to change the font of those three browser elements but many users will probably prefer an easier way to change the fonts in Firefox without editing configuration files.

The Make Font Size Bigger Pack is a Firefox add-on that will automatically increase the font size of the fonts in the Firefox address bar, tab bar and status bar. The new font sizes are automatically enabled after installation of the add-on and a restart of the web browser.

The pack combines two add-ons of the same developer in one add-on. Firefox users can also download the Make Address Bar Bigger and Make Tab Bar And Status Bar Bigger add-ons instead in case they only need one of those.

There are no configuration options currently but the developer promises to update the add-on soon with options to edit the font size and an option to enable or disable the add-on in the Firefox web browser.

Firefox users who prefer to change the font sizes, colors and fonts in general can edit the userchrome.css file directly which is located in the chrome directory of the Firefox profile folder. It can be that only a userchrome-example.css is available, just remove the -example part from the url in that case.

copy and paste userchrome-example.css in the folder: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile\chrome then change the name to userchrome.css

* Edit this file and copy it as userChrome.css into your * profile-directory/chrome/ */
/* * This file can be used to customize the look of Mozilla’s user interface * You should consider using !important on rules which you want to * override default settings.
/* Grow tab titles by 190% */.tabbrowser-tabs .tab-text {  font-size: 190%;   * } */

YouTube – Jolicloud Linux on the Dell Inspiron Duo

As far as touch goes, Ubuntu and it’s derivatives (Jolicloud included) work great. Although it isn’t supported out of the box, it’s surprising the performance you get. I no longer have Jolicloud on my Duo, this was just a demonstration, i only have Ubuntu running with the Gnome Desktop session set to default. Keep in mind, multi-touch doesn’t work in Linux with this system just yet, however, track the thread in the description and you’ll certainly see some development 🙂
